The Arc of Harrisonburg

This week, my partner and I have begun working with The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham. I had not heard of this organization prior to the grant writing class, but when I discovered their mission I decided I had to work with them!

Arc works every day to support and protect the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also work to increase levels of community involvement and inclusion for these individuals. Arc provides a center-based day program that helps prepare these individuals to go out and work in various capacities in the community. This not only enriches the lives Arc program participants, but enriches community as a whole and spreads awareness about different disabilities.

We’ve been working closely with the Executive Director, Heather Denman, as we progress through the stages of the grant writing process. Her excitement for the Learning By Giving project and this new program is contagious! As a seasoned grant writer herself, Ms. Denman has also given us some great grant writing advice. It’s been a awesome learning experience for everyone involved.

Thank you to The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for your cooperation and enthusiasm thus far!
