It’s an exciting time for our grant writing class. In the last two weeks alone, we all attended a diversity conference, researched and presented a poster project on a resource related to philanthropy, grant making, or a related topic, and had our initial meeting with our grant partners. For me (and my co-writer, Smoot) we visited Skyline Middle School to meet Brett, the Co-Founder of On The Road Collaborative. We discussed how to structure our grant, program specifics, and we observed a little bit about the program. Pictured above is the 3-D Printer the middle schoolers got to use in the educational after school program that On The Road Collaborative implements every school day. This brings me to my next point.
As we all got the privilege to attend the Diversity Conference about two weeks ago, I thought I would share in my experiences. The session I attended discussed the difference between the current generation (Generation Z) and other various generations (Millennials, Generation X, etc.). I saw clear connections between this session and writing a grant proposal for On The Road Collaborative. The middle schoolers/high schoolers in the program we are asking money for are all Generation Z. So attending the Generation Z session has been very helpful in writing and revising the grant proposal. Now that I have a better understanding about Generation Z (for example; that they were born with technology in their hands and did not have to adapt to it like the previous generation did; a.k.a. the 3D printer), I can more honesty and thoroughly design a grant proposal that fits the needs of their program.
